Each class chose one of the Beatitudes to study. Preschoolers worked on being peacemakers. First grade collected canned goods for the parish food pantry to serve the hungry. Sixth graders studied all eight Beatitudes and created a globe to illustrate the Beatitudes all around the world. Children talked about being selfess, about learning to be humble, and showing respect for all people. Te activity culminated in a program featuring songs and activities that embraced these Beatitude messages. Each student received a special T-shirt to remind them of goodness in a continuing way. Te project was supported by a grant from the National Black Catholic Congress. Recycling St. Anthony School has been focused on recycling for nearly three years, collaborating with Great- er Greenville Sanitation to help children under- stand how re-use saves the environment. Tis year, through a grant from Palmetto Pride, the program went school-wide for the “Great American Cleanup.” Recycling was a focus of science classes throughout the term, and students wrote essays about the impor- tance of recycling. Tese were featured in a school assembly in late May. Te students also brought their families into the project, gathering litter at home and school to demonstrate that they’re committed to keeping the earth clean and healthy. 6 St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School newsletter
